Prisoner brutally beaten at Combinado
de Guantánamo.
(GUANTÁNAMO/CUBA/January 23rd/Puenteinfocubamiami.org)-
Juan Balón Cespedes a 25 years old common prisoner
confined in floor 4-TO of the provincial prison Combinado
de Guantánamo, sanctioned to 2 years and 9 months for
fraud and 3 years for trying to escape, was brutally
beaten by an officer of Combinado de Guantánamo for
merely asking for medical assistance.
On December 26, 2002, Balón Céspedes was shouting for
the prison officials to take him to the infirmary for
he had been for three days requesting for medical
assistance for his bronchial asthma crisis, when Mayor
Pablo Reyes Cobas entered the cell with a bat and began
to strike him until he left the prisoner unconscious in
the floor of his cell.
The prison officials who have constantly denied medical
attention to Juan Balón Cespedes in Combinado de
Guantánamo are:
1. Lieutenant Colonel Jorge Chediak Pérez, Warden of the Prison.
2. Mayor Pablo Reyes Cobas, Chief of Interior Order.
3. Dra. Aracelis, Head of the medical post in the Prison.
