Members of the Cuban Political Police threatened with
imprisonment, the family of Roberto de Miranda Hernández,
the independent educator sanctioned to 20 years in prison
during the summary trials of last April, denounced some of
his relatives in the capital.
"The military police, interviewed my Aunt and they said
that they would travel to Manzanillo put on notice my
grandparents –both have more than 80 years of age - that
they will arrest my mother if she continues to challenge
the government in favor of my father's liberation and the
liberation of rest of the 74 dissidents", stated to Luz-Info-
Press, Marcos de Miranda Rivas spokesman for the Independent
School of Educators of Cuba.
According to the report, Iraida Soledad of the Rivas, wife
of De Miranda, has not stopped attending Santa Rita's Church,
where the wives and relatives of the political prisoners meet
for Mass on Sundays "I will not stop demanding my husband's
freedom, even if the arrest me and send me to prison like as
they did to my husband", declared Soledad, who went on to say
that she was not informed as to when test were given to Miranda
at the Hermanos Almejeira Hospital, where he was transferred to
in a cage instead of an ambulance.
"We learned about the tests, thanks to hospital workers that
know and care immensely for my father", added Marcos.
He was forced to walk in shackles all through the hospital as
if he were a dangerous criminal. When they finished with the
tests they transferred him back to the prison.
Even though prison authorities threatened to transfer Miranda
to a penitentiary in Santiago de Cuba, their relatives affirmed
that, "they won't abandon him even if they take him to the Moon".
