hospital in Santa Clara denied a medical certificate to peaceful opponent
Alexis Oms Perez.
Last January 28th, Oms Perez, who is a member of the Democracy Movement,
participated in a peaceful demonstration in front of the headquarters of
State Security, where officers of the Cuban Special Brigade resorted to
physical abuse against opponents in order to disperse the demonstration.
Three days later, Alexis went to the emergency room of the hospital
“Celestino Hernandez Rombau" of the above mentioned city because he
suffered from a sharp pain in his right shoulder, once there he was seen
by Dr. Carlos Alberto Garcia Esparza, who after analyzing the x-rays,
stated the opponent was suffering from a shoulder displacement.
The doctor whose specialty is internal medicine prescribed Metacarbanol,
Ibuprofen and Duralgina to the opponent and referred him to see an
orthopedic specialist at the University Hospital "Arnaldo Milián Castro,"
for official recognition and treatment of the injury.
According to the opponent, he later went to the above mentioned hospital
and was examined by an orthopedic specialist who confirmed the diagnosis
of Dr. Garcia Esparza but refused to give his name and declined to issue a
medical certificated because he was instructed not to do so in this case.
