Press Release
Stockholm 1 2008
Cuban activist for democracy a nominee for
the Nobel Peace Prize.
Giving the Nobel Peace Prize to Oswaldo Jose Payá Sardiñas would call
attention to the world, in the sense that in the twenty-first century
political prisoners can be released peacefully, and even more importantly,
the Cuban people will get the message that they also deserve to live in a
free and democratic homeland.
Thus expressed representatives of six parties of the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag),
who joined together to nominate for the Nobel Peace Price the
internationally renowned
Cuban defender of democracy Oswaldo J.
Paya Sardinas.
In this nomination they argue: That the manner in which the situation will
develop for more than 11 million Cubans once the era of Fidel Castro
finally ends, will largely depend on the democratic movement that has been
strengthening in Cuba. It is also important that the advance towards
democracy in Cuba is supported at the right time by various international
entities.
