Physical integrity of Cuban prisoner of conscience in
jeopardy

SANTA CLARA, CUBA – February 19th (Guillermo Farinas Hernandez,
Cubanacan Press/Puenteinfocubamiami.org) – Cuban prisoner of conscience Ivan
Hernandez Carrillo sends an alert to the national and international public
opinion from his cell at the Guajamal prison for men in Santa Clara because
his physical integrity is in jeopardy.
In a letter dated January 30, 2008, Hernandez Carrillo, an independent
journalist, political and trade union activist and independent librarian in
Matanzas, expressed that first Lieutenant Juan Gilarte Alpajon, promised
special privileges to any prisoner who jeopardizes the physical integrity of
the prisoner of conscience. An further stated: ‘I hold the Cuban government
responsible for my physical integrity, especially captain Hanoi Rodriguez of
the Ministry of the Interior.
The provincial coordinator) for Matanzas of the Independent Library Project
(in prison), states that he is aware of the above mentioned tactics,
and several prisoners are aware in full solidarity with him.
The independent librarian, political and trade union activist and
independent journalist Ivan Hernandez Carrillo was sentenced to 25 years in
prison in the Cuban Black Spring of 2003
