"Farmer unjustly sent to prison in order to
confiscate his land.
CIEGO DE AVILA, CUBA, January 20 (Roberto Hernandez Valdivia /
www.plantados.org) - The 35 years old farmer Jose Enrique Aguiar Rodriguez,
resident of the cooperative Ignacio Agramonte, the municipality of Chambas,
in the province of Ciego de Avila, is serving a four year prison term in the
Canaleta prison after a murky and rigged trial, intended for the future
confiscation of his farmland- denounced Roberto Valdivia Hernandez, a member
of the Democratic Party 30 of November “Frank País” at the above mentioned
province.
The police had previously arrested Aguiar Rodriguez in front of his small
daughters three times, accusing him of having opinions contrary to the
regime. His relatives have stated that both the prosecution and the trial
was rigged and plagued by irregularities; that he was sanctioned for the
mere purpose of confiscating the land that belongs to this farmer.
Aguiar has appealed for the solidarity of national and international human
rights organizations and to all democratic governments of the world
requesting they demand the Cuban government to stop tampering with the
rights of the Cuban people and implement a justice system in the country.
Information received over the telephone at the Office of Plantados hasta
la Libertad y la Democracia en Cuba on the 17th day of January, from Ciego
de Avila in the voice of
Roberto Hernandez Valdivia and sent to the Information Bridge Cuba Miami (www.puenteinfocubamiami.org)
