Afflicted patients of specialized clinic in Baracoa
SANTA CLARA, January 23 – Patients in
need of physical rehabilitation in Baracoa have not been able to receive
treatment since the beginning of the year due to a lack of medications at a
specialized public health clinic in Baracoa.
The polyclinic "Martinez Tamayo¨ in the above
mentioned municipality is not providing rehabilitation services because it
lacks ointments that are needed for specialized treatments, declared Manuel
Antonio Rodriguez Pajan, a citizen whose limbs were affected due to a
neuropathy.
The source added that the polyclinic in
question is the only one in the area trained to treat about 50 patients who
must received physical rehabilitation daily. When confronted, clinic staff
says that the difficulties are due to the American blockade which according
to them prohibits the importation of drugs for these treatments.
Lack of drinkable water and the constant
blackouts of the last fifteen days, also affect the treatment sessions –
concluded Rodriguez Pajan.
