Diarrhea outbreak in a Matanzas prison taking a toll
on inmates
RANCHUELO, CUBA- 9 de Junio (Felix Reyes Gutiérrez/www.puenteinfocubamiami.org)-
Inmates at the Agüica Cuban prison which is located in the Matanzas province
are suffering from a diarrhea outbreak since June 1st, due to the
contaminated water they drink.
According to information provided by political prisoner Alexander Garcia
Lima about 180 prisoners suffer from stomach pains and constant diarrhea due
to negligence of prisons authorities.
The source added that they were told that the prison infirmary has no
medication for such affection and that Captain Jorge Luis Vega, director of
said prison told inmates that the establishment that regulates prisons in
their area does not have the resources needed to eliminate the water
contamination at the prison..
