detained in Bayamo

BAYAMO, CUBA - March 31 (Daniel Silva Luis Quintana / Puenteinfocubamiami.org) – The commemoration of the anniversary of the State
Security in Cuba, or Squads of repression and death, did not preclude their
members from detaining and mistreating peaceful opponents Luis Daniel Silva
Quintana and Ludys Rodriguez Diaz, President of the College of Independent
Teachers of Cuba and the Director of the “La Patria Libre” independent
newspaper and member of the Executive of FLAMUR respectively.
On March 26, at 8:00 in the morning the above mentioned opponents were
heading to meet with a lawyer by the name of Ana Angelica when agents of the
State Security detained them at the Street Capote corner with Figueredo in
Bayamo.

The purpose of the meeting with the lawyer was to discuss her accusation
that the independent newspaper “La Patria Libre” is illegal.
Both activists were taken to the police unit located at KM 2 ½ Road via
Santiago de Cuba, where they were interrogated and mistreated. They kept
them under arrest until March 27th, and around 11:00 AM of March 27th, they
were released not before the police issued a written warning to each one,
the second warning issued to the president of the CPIC.
